How to play Americano Padel

Americano is a popular tournament format for your padel tennis matches. The idea is that every participant plays exactly one match together with each of the other participants. It’s a great format if you have more players than can fit in a single padel match, or if you want to try playing both with and against everyone. In the end, there is only one fair winner, since everyone has played the same matches. If you are 5 players with 1 court, 5 matches will be played, where in each round, one player sits out while the other 4 play.

Points

What’s different about Americano padel compared to a traditional padel match is also the point system. If you choose to play up to 16 points each round, 16 is the total sum of points. A match could end, for example, 6–10 or 9–7, and so on. The winner is the player who has accumulated the most total points from all matches.

How to serve

In Americano padel, each team takes turns serving with 2 serves in a row. These 2 serves are made by the same player, and then they switch when it’s the team’s turn to serve again. If you’re unsure where to serve from, you can always calculate whether the total sum of points is even or odd. If it’s an even number (e.g. 6–4), you serve from the right side. If it’s an odd number (e.g. 8–5), you serve from the left. You always start the match serving from the right side.
